George Gist, Jr.

George Gist. Jr. is credited with building the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service (OCES) to an organization guided by the people it serves. He believed that the participating individuals had to become involved in both the content and direction of extension programs. Born in Brooke County West Virginia and now residing in Dublin, Ohio, Gist has received numerous recognitions for his dedication and service to the extension service. He spent 36 years with the OCES as an agronomist-the last eight years as an Associate Director and Director. His leadership resulted in the strengthening of extension advisory

Committees at both county, state and national levels and the initiation of extension support committees. His visionary leadership is credited with assisting OCES to better serve its clientele and to become known nationally for its programs.
