Earl Poling

Earl Poling, of Marysville, has dedicated his life to the dairy industry. In 1947, as the first employee of the newly formed American Dairy Association of Ohio, Poling began assisting dairy farmers build a stronger market for dairy products through advertising, promotions and nutrition education. His untiring efforts to that goal caused the association to grow and evolve into the Mid-East United Dairy Industry Association. At that time, producer funding was completely voluntary. Poling persuaded dairy producers to pool their resources to advertise milk and dairy  products to build market demand. When he retired in 1987, he had achieved his goals. Total annual producer funding at Mid-East UDIA reached an all-time high of S6.6 million.

Poling's vision also included agriculture's future. He was responsible for the creation of a $100,000 endowment fund in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at The Ohio State University. He was also a member of the Ohio Expositions Commission and the Ohio Council of Cooperatives.
