Esther McDanel Welch

Esther McDanel Welch graduated from Ashland High School and attended Ashland College. Her life and leadership are founded in her active involvement and ownership of two century farms, U-Dean Farms by marriage and Homestead Farms through inheritance. Off the farm, her leadership in the dairy industry and journalism has earned her recognition: Ohio Agricultural Woman of the Year, 1995; Ohio Holstein Association Woman of the Year, 1990; Ashland County Farm Bureau Woman of the Year, 1989; World Dairy Expo Woman of the Year. 1988; among many others.

Welch's role as editor of the Ohio Holstein News since 1990 has presented countless opportunities for involvement. She serves on the executive committee for the American Dairy Association & Dairy Council Mid East where she is a delegate and board member and on a number of committees for the National Holstein Association. Also active in her community. she is past president of the Tn-County (Ashland, Wayne and Holmes) Educational Service Center Governing Board and was on the Ashland County-West Holmes Joint Vocational Board of Education.

As a farmer and promoter of agriculture, Welch has been on many farm and news programs on radio and television presenting the farmer's point of view. She and her husband Eugene live near Polk, Ohio in Ashland County.
